Céleste Mori started Stream Lab Core Nex in the spring of 2019 from a rented studio in Nakameguro, Tokyo, with a sewing machine, a bolt of French lace, and a very specific frustration. She had spent seven years as a buyer for a department store lingerie floor and watched, season after season, as beautiful fabrics got cut into ill-fitting shapes and sold at prices that made no sense relative to what was inside the packaging. She left in February 2019, took a pattern-cutting course in Osaka, and had her first six styles ready by June.
The first real turning point came in the winter of 2020, when a small editorial in a Tokyo lifestyle magazine ran a photograph of a model wearing the Atelier's Riviera one-piece in sand. The inbox filled up overnight. Céleste had 22 pieces in stock. She sold them all in four days, refunded the rest, and spent the next three months reworking the production process so she could actually fulfil demand without sacrificing the hand-stitched finishing she had built the brand on.
